Hong Kong

Victoria Peak - Hong Kong Island

This is probably the most popular view of Hong Kong, from Victoria Peak. After traveling to Hong Kong numerous times (over 40 at last count) I finally decided to go up there and take some photos. The usual way to get up there is to take the tram which runs from The Peak Tram Terminus at Garden Road up a steep incline right to the top. The day I was there, however, the tram was out of action and I had to take a bus, which goes through Wan Chai and takes about 45 minutes. The lower tram station is just a 10 minute walk from the Airport Express station on Hong Kong island. I wont go into a lot of detail on how to get there, I'll just put links to sites with far better information.

The Star Ferry - Kowloon to Hong Kong Island

This is a picture of the famous Star Ferry which runs between Hong Kong island and Kowloon and also other places. It's very cheap (about a couple of $HK a trip) and ferries run frequently all day up to around 10pm or 11pm. The other alternatives to get to the island are: taxi via the underground tunnels, which is expensive and slow depending upon the traffic and the MRT which is cheap and fast (just a couple of minutes). If you're coming from the airport you can just take the Airport Express straight to Hong Kong island. But if your a tourist you have to take the Star Ferry just for the experience. The Star Ferry ports are located at Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom in Kowloon and Central and Wan Chai on Hong Kong island. The Terminals are easy to find, and there's a map on the link below.

The Landmark Tower - Hong Kong Island

Exactly as the name implies the Landmark tower is simply that, a landmark. As far as I know there's nothing touristy to see there apart from the building itself. All of Hong Kong's skyscrapers are located in close proximity in the Central district on Hong Kong island close too the Star Ferry terminal. Let's face it, Hong Kong's central district is so small, everthing is in close proximity to everything else.

Statue Square - Hong Kong Island

This is statue square with the World War I & II memorial in the foreground. You can see the Landmark Tower to the rear left and the square is surrounded by other famous buildings such as the HSBC bank and the old Supreme Court building among others. It's all right outside the Star Ferry terminal in Cental.

Me on Victoria Peak

This is me trying to take my own photo on Victoria Peak. Some kind woman offered to take the photo for me, but after I'd been clicking away with the camera pointing at me for so long, I felt a bit stupid and did the manly thing and refused the offer. You know what it's like; it's like when you're driving your car and asking for directions when you're lost.

Ocean Park

I went to Ocean Park about 13 years ago and I think the photos are back in England somewhere. Ocean Park, however, is still an attraction worth seeing. From what I remember, it's a bus ride from Central in Hong Kong and then I seem to remember taking a long cable car ride to get there. Anyway check the link below for more accurate details. Ah! just found this picture of the cable car. Didn't actually take this photo, it's courtessy of the Hong Kong Tourism Board

The Bottom Line

No! this really is the bottom line; there is no more; it is the end of this page; well except for the ubiquitous...
